Good2Go – The tour operator is committed to sustainable and responsible travel.
This is reflected in the “low impact” style of travel, where all that is taken are photographs and all that is left are footprints.
The travel company, 100%, is South African-owned and aims to make a real difference to the lives of the people in the countries it visits.
This trip supports the following causes: Hawane Resort is owned by a Swazi resident for 90%, and all 25 members of staff are local residents.
The resort sponsors the local football team and hosts conferences for young Swazi leaders who are part of the UNDP programme, a United Nations development programme that focuses on fighting poverty, reducing inequality, and protecting the planet by supporting countries in developing policies, skills, partnerships and institutions.
The Zululand Lodge is owned by South African owners (100%) and all the staff are from the local community.
The lodge generates approximately 80% of its electricity from solar power, and the 200 hectares of land surrounding the lodge is a rehabilitated conservancy that was formerly agricultural land. The lodge is involved in land rehabilitation, anti-erosion measures, the introduction of wildlife and natural anti-poaching measures.
A local nursery is also supported, for example by creating its own vegetable garden for healthy meals for the children and by providing play and study materials.
Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge is owned by the local community, and 95% of the permanent staff are from the local population. 1% of the annual turnover is channelled into a local community trust, which funds projects such as local education, health and child welfare.
The lodge is situated within the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation Area and features a “vulture restaurant” (a feeding and educational centre) for the local and endangered bearded vultures, involving the local population in the protection of these birds.
