Programme

Dag 1: Cape Town

Depart from Cape Town at approx. 08:00 for a day trip to the Cape Peninsula, including a visit to the village of Hout Bay, a working fishing harbour with a lovely beach.

Then drive via a beautiful coastal route to the Cape Point National Park.

After visiting the national park on the east side of the Cape Peninsula, drive to the village of Simon's Town and Boulders Beach, where a visit will be paid to the African penguin colony there.

In the evening, dine at one of the many restaurants in the V&A Waterfront (at your own expense).

Day 2: Cape Town - Cederberg Mountains

Depart from Cape Town and drive north towards the Cederberg Mountains and after setting up camp, take a hike in the area in search of rock engravings from the San people who once lived here.

Day 3: Cape Town – Gariep River

Depart from the Cedarberg Mountains and drive to Namibia and the campsite on the Orange River.

Rest of the afternoon at your leisure in and around the camp. Time to relax and to swim and canoe (at your own expense) in the river.

Day 4: Gariep River – Keetmanshoop

After breakfast, drive to the famous Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon.

Time for a walk and, with a bit of luck, a superb sunset over the edge of the Canyon in the afternoon.

Then drive towards Keetmanshoop and the Quiver Tree Forest Rest Camp.

Day 5: Keetmanshoop – Namib Desert

Depart from Keetmanshoop and drive to Sossusvlei, famous for its magnificent red dunes.

Sossusvlei forms the gateway to the Namib Desert. In the afternoon, with a bit of luck, we will see the most beautiful sunset ever.

Day 6: Namib Desert

Day at leisure for walks and excursions. In Sossusvlei, a walk (approx. 4 km) will be taken to the dunes and the Sesriem canyon will be visited.

Day 7: Namib Desert - Swakopmund

Depart from Sesriem and drive through the Namib Desert to the coastal town of Swakopmund. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore the town.

Swakopmund has nice little shops, outdoor cafes and good restaurants.

Day 8: Swakopmund

A free day to explore Swakopmund, try dune surfing, or take a quad bike tour over the dunes (not included and at an additional cost).

Day 9: Swakopmund – Damaraland

Depart from Swakopmund and drive north to Cape Cross where a visit will be made to the large seal colony.

After visiting Cape Cross, we headed inland and drove towards the Brandberg desert area for an overnight stay.

With a bit of luck, the desert elephants can be seen here.

There are also magnificent rock drawings to be seen in the area, from Bushmen who lived here in former times.

In the afternoon, a walk in the surrounding area with a local guide, looking for rock carvings and local wildlife.

Day 10: Damaraland – Etosha National Park

Depart from Damaraland and drive to the famous Etosha National Park.

Upon arrival in Etosha, a first game drive through the park searching for the animals found here, such as gemsbok, elephant, lion, zebra, giraffe, leopard, and many antelope and bird species.

Day 13: Windhoek - Kalahari

Depart from Windhoek and drive to the Botswana border.

In the afternoon, a walk will be taken with a San Bushman guide who will talk about the life and culture of the San Bushmen. (it is possible that the guide may not be present due to the nomadic lifestyle of the San, in which case another excursion will be offered)

Day 14: Kalahari - Okavango Delta

Day 15: Okavango Delta

An experience not to be missed.

Today a mokoro canoe excursion in the Okavango Delta in search of the wild animals, accompanied by an experienced guide and ranger.

Day 17: Maun – Makgadikgadi Pans - Nata

Depart from Maun and drive to the Makgadikgadi Pans, a vast salt pan that, after the rains, attracts thousands of animals such as zebra, springbok, wildebeest, and many bird species in search of water.

After visiting the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, drive on to the village of Nata and the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

Guma Lagoon Camp wordt gemanaged door de eigenaar en heeft 36 staf uit de lokale bevolking plus biedt werk aan ca. 50 polers uit de lokale gemeenschap. Het camp sponsort 3 lokale scholen met studiemateriaal en biedt studenten een opleiding in field guiding en de hotelindustrie.

Thebe River Safaris wordt gerund door lokale Motswana eigenaars biedt werk aan 89 Motswana staf. De lodge verbouwd eigen groenten en koopt in bij de lokale kleinschalige boeren.

The average age on this tour is 38-45, but ages range from 20 to 60+ years.

Participation
From 12 years old, no maximum age. However, at least 1 adult must accompany every child under 18.

During the trip, walks will be made that require a certain level of stamina.

The walks are graded as easy to moderate and are always optional.

Overnight stays
Guesthouse of hotels: 18 nachten in guesthouses, hotels, kleine lodges of tented lodges veelal in tweepersoonskamer met ensuite badkamer zoals in het reisprogramma (of gelijkwaardige accommodaties)

Tented Camp:
2 nachten in het Guma Lagoon Camp aan de westzijde van de Okavango Delta

Meals:
During the journey, good and healthy meals are prepared using mostly local produce.

To give you an idea of what the meals will be like: breakfast will consist of cornflakes with milk, toast with jam, and a regular English breakfast with eggs and bacon, fruit juice, coffee, and tea.

De lunch zal veelal bestaan uit kaas, vleeswaren, salades en brood(jes) (picknick stijl). Het diner zal het meest uitgebreid zijn met regelmatig bbq, roerbakschotels en de typisch Zuid Afrikaanse Potjiekos (alles in één kookpot gerecht, heerlijk !!!!) klaargemaakt boven het kampvuur. Indien er speciale diëten zijn (vanwege vegetarische voorkeur en/of allergieën) deze graag doorgeven bij boeking van de reis zodat er van te voren rekening mee gehouden kan worden.

Tijdens het diner wordt ook koffie en thee geschonken. Overige dranken zijn exclusief en moeten zelf worden ingekocht. Tijdens deze reis zijn 20x ontbijt, 17x lunch en 11 diners inbegrepen in de reissom waarvan 7x ontbijt in een lodge.

Het overige deel van de maaltijden wordt bereid door de gidsen en gegeten rondom het kampvuur of in een boma.

Medical conditions:
Iedere deelnemer aan de reis dient in goede gezondheid te zijn. Medische faciliteiten zijn niet altijd direct aanwezig in de bezochte gebieden. In de grote steden zijn goede ziekenhuizen.

Alle persoonlijke recepten dienen te worden meegenomen, samen met een kopie hiervan. De gids moet op de hoogte worden gesteld van eventuele medische condities. Voorzorgsmaatregelen tegen o.a. malaria, gele koorts, geelzucht, tyfus, D.T.P. en cholera dienen voor de reis geregeld te zijn.

Important things to take with you:
Zaklantaarn en reserve batterijen, verrekijker, waterfles, toiletartikelen, zonnebril, hoed of petje, muggenspray, foto/videocamera met voldoende films,

batterijen en/of accu’s, oplaadapparaat voor accu’s, wandelschoenen, regenjack, badkleding, klein rugzakje, twee kleine handdoeken en tot slot een kleine reisapotheek.

Luggage
Travel bag (due to limited car space, it is best to pack luggage in a travel bag or backpack) with a maximum of 12 kg per person.

Neem daarnaast ook een kleine rugzak of tas voor persoonlijke spulletjes mee voor in de auto. Een harde koffer kan niet worden meegenomen.

Clothing
Er wordt geadviseerd om lichte kleding mee te nemen, voor de avonden lange broek, trui/blouse met lange mouwen (tegen muggen). In de wintermaanden juni t/m oktober kan het fris worden en soms zelfs koud.

Dus ook warme kleding is nodig. Comfortabele schoenen.

Reservations
The agent reserves the right to amend a programme if the agent deems it necessary due to certain conditions, force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.

Should the vehicle break down, the agent will not be responsible for alternative accommodation other than camping, and there will be no compensation for flights or similar.

The agent asks for a compensation form to be signed upon arrival and before departure of the trip.

Failure to sign this form may result in the passenger being refused travel.
