Travel information

Language
English is spoken by the guide during the trip. On request, we can arrange for guides who speak other languages.

The journey is always accompanied by a certified guide/driver for optimal knowledge, information, and individual attention.

Visa
For travel to Tanzania, you must be in possession of a valid Dutch passport which is valid for at least 6 months upon departure from Tanzania, and you will need a visa. You can arrange the visa before departing from the Netherlands online at www.visa.immigration.go.tz.

There also need to be enough blank pages next to each other in the passport for the required stamps. If you hold a nationality other than Dutch, please check with the Tanzanian Consulate in your country.

Afrika Online does not provide visas. For information, please visit the Nederland Wereldwijd website. www.netherlandsworldwide.nl/travel-advice/tanzania.

Should you not possess the correct travel documents during your journey, the consequences and any resulting costs will be at your own expense. (subject to change)

Time difference
The time difference is 1 hour in the summer months, and 2 hours in the winter months.

Banks and finance
With the exception of Dar es Salaam (from 09:00 to 15:00) and Kilimanjaro Airport (24 hours a day), banks in Tanzania
Generally open only in the mornings on weekdays.

All major hotels and most lodges are licensed to exchange foreign currency and travellers cheques. In Arusha there are 2 cash machines (but be aware that these do not always work).

Travellers cheques in US dollars and credit cards (VISA, Mastercard and Barclay) are widely accepted. American Express is not accepted.

Cash only in US dollars and small denominations. The local currency is the Tanzanian shilling.

Health and Safety
The sun in Tanzania is hotter and more intense than you can imagine. Even on a cloudy day, you can still get badly sunburnt. Good sunscreen (at least factor 30) is therefore essential, as are a good sun hat and sunglasses.

Drink plenty, but never from the tap; it's better to buy bottled water.

In most hotels and lodges, drinking water will be provided in the room.

Hospitals and healthcare
There are small district hospitals located throughout Tanzania. Larger hospitals are only found in Arusha and Dar es Salaam.

It is therefore also important to inquire about recommended vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis well in advance of departure.

It is also advisable to put together a small travel first-aid kit with, for example, Imodium for diarrhoea, ORS, etc. (also check www.gezondheidsnet.nl/reisapotheek).

The Flying Doctors Society of Africa offers temporary membership for tourists for a small fee. In return, “members” receive free air transport to a hospital or medical centre in the event of a serious accident or severe illness while on safari.

Malaria
The best way to prevent malaria is to ensure you are not bitten.

When it's dusk (morning and evening), wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirts, and apply mosquito repellent containing DEET to your ankles, hands, and neck.

In addition, it is highly recommended to take good malaria prophylaxis. Please consult your GGD for more information.

Photography
In Tanzania, it is forbidden to take photographs of the President, the police, military personnel, prisons, and airports. If you wish to take a photo of the local population, it is advisable to ask for permission beforehand.

For you, it may be a treasured memory of your holiday, but many Tanzanian residents are superstitious and do not want you to take their photograph. Keep your camera in a dust-free bag or container.

Transport
Transport during the trip is by 4×4 Land Cruiser safari vehicle. Comfortable travel and excellent for game drives.

Travel – Cancellation Insurance
Taking out travel insurance is mandatory. It is strongly recommended to take out cancellation insurance.

AfrikaOnline unfortunately cannot take out insurance; we would be happy to refer you to, for example, the ANWB.

We kindly request that you provide us with the name of the insurer and the policy numbers of both insurances by email to AfrikaOnline as soon as possible and well before your departure.

Participation
This trip is suitable for children, and although the distances between the different parks can sometimes be a bit long, there is plenty of time to stop along the way and there are interesting things to see en route.

To make the most of this trip, we recommend not travelling with children under 8 years old (with exceptions).

However, there must be at least 1 adult accompanying each child under 18 years old.

Medical conditions:
Anyone in good health may participate in this trip.

Luggage
Travel bag (due to space in the car, it is best to bring luggage in a travel bag or backpack) with a maximum of 20 kg pp.

Reservations
The agent reserves the right to amend a programme if the agent deems it necessary due to certain conditions, force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.

Should the vehicle break down, the agent will not be responsible for alternative accommodation other than camping, and there will be no compensation for flights or similar.

The agent asks for a compensation form to be signed upon arrival and before departure of the trip.

Failure to sign this form may result in the passenger being refused travel.
