Programme

Day 1: Nairobi - Arusha

Depart Nairobi from the Boulevard Nairobi hotel at 07:00 AM (please be there at least 30 minutes before departure) after breakfast and drive to the Namanga border with Tanzania.

After border formalities, drive to the town of Arusha, the starting point for most safaris in Tanzania.

Upon arrival in Arusha, check in at the lodge and the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 2: Arusha – Serengeti National Park

Today, an early start and straight after breakfast, we’ll drive into Serengeti National Park. En route to the camp, we’ll have a game drive through the world-famous Serengeti National Park.

Arrival and the rest of the afternoon at your leisure in the camp.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

Early start and a full day of game driving in Serengeti National Park.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park - Karatu

This morning I got up early and went on a last game drive through the Serengeti on the way to the Ngorongoro Crater.

Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater and have an afternoon game drive in the crater. After the game drive, depart from the Ngorongoro Crater and drive to the nearby village of Karatu.

The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

Day 5: Karatu - Moshi

This morning after breakfast, we visited the Mto wa Mbu market where we did some shopping and could buy lovely souvenirs.

Then, via Arusha, drive to the town of Moshi, situated at the foot of Kilimanjaro.

On the way, we see coffee plantations, rice paddies, small villages and open savannahs.

Arrival in Moshi in the afternoon and rest of the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 6: Moshi – Bagamoyo

Today, a long drive towards the coast with a stop for lunch at a nice location along the way.

En route, we will pass through charming, typically African villages, and if there is enough time, we will stop somewhere for a short visit. The accommodation in Bagamoyo is situated on the beach.

Arrival at the hotel and the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure to relax or take a nice walk.

Day 7: Bagamoyo – Dar es Salaam – Zanzibar (Nungwi)

Depart from Bagamoyo and drive to Dar es Salaam and the harbour. The ferry will take us across to the paradisiacal island of Zanzibar, the spice island, in two hours.

On arrival in Zanzibar, drive towards the village of Nungwi in the north-east of Zanzibar. Arrive in Nungwi and spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 8: Zanzibar (Nungwi)

Full day at Nungwi beach. If the beach doesn't appeal, there's an option to book one of the excursions offered by the guide, such as fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving, a visit to the turtle sanctuary, a visit to a local village, and more.

Day 9: Zanzibar (Stonetown)

Depart from Nungwi after breakfast and drive towards Stone Town. En route, a visit will be made to a spice plantation. A guided walk will be taken around the plantation and there will be an opportunity to purchase fresh spices.

The capital, Stone Town, a small town with many Arab influences dating back to the time of the slave and spice trade (think of the VOC). After lunch, a walk through Stone Town, including Freddie Mercury's birthplace and the local market.

Upon request, we can provide you with a quotation for different airlines. Flight price indication for this trip: Kenya Airways flight from Amsterdam to Nairobi and from Zanzibar to Amsterdam with a stopover in Nairobi from € 720,- per person including airport tax.

Extension of the journey

Travel information

Number of participants:
Our camping group safaris are run in small groups to offer the best and most flexible programme possible. Small groups mean more time for the traveller, shorter waiting times and a friendly, personal atmosphere during the trip.

Guaranteed departure from 4 people / maximum 20 participants.

Language
As the participants on the above trip come from different countries, English will be spoken by the guide during the tour. The tour will be accompanied by one certified guide and an English-speaking driver for optimal knowledge, information, and individual attention. On the travel dates indicated by an *, a German translator will also travel along; however, the main language of the tour will still be English.

Visa
If you are in possession of a Dutch/Belgian passport that is valid for at least 6 months, leave the country. A visa is required for both Kenya and Tanzania.

Highlights of the trip:

Naturally, during the trip, an effort will be made to visit villages and make contact with the local inhabitants.

Transport
Transport during the trip will be via a special safari truck with a seatbelt for every seat and a personal locker for each traveller to store their backpack. Comfortable travel and excellent for game drives.

Large windows for everyone to have a good view. Roof rack and trailer for luggage.

Travel – Cancellation Insurance
Taking out travel insurance is compulsory. It is recommended to take out cancellation insurance. AfrikaOnline does not provide insurance.

We kindly request that you provide the name of the insurer and the policy numbers for both insurances to AfrikaOnline via email as soon as possible and well in advance of your departure.

Participation
From 8 years old (depending on the trip), no maximum age. However, at least 1 adult must accompany each child under 18.

For travellers over 65 years of age, a health declaration may sometimes be requested with questions for the GP.

During the trip, walks will be made that require a certain level of stamina.

The walks are graded as easy to moderate and are always optional.

Overnight stays
Camping: 4 nights camping in National Parks or cities. The campsites are basic with simple facilities such as occasional cold showers and shared toilet facilities (bring your own toilet paper and wet wipes).

Some accommodations have a swimming pool. Sometimes a campsite can also be beautifully located, but the disadvantage is that there are fewer facilities. The camping equipment;

Spacious and comfortable igloo tent measuring 2.2 x 2.2 x 1.5 metres, which is easy to set up and take down. The tents have “built-in” mosquito nets. Furthermore, there are mattresses approximately 5 cm thick and comfortable camping chairs with backrests.

Hotel 5 nights in comfortable hotel/guesthouse/permanent safari tents with beds. All rooms are twin rooms with separate beds and a private bathroom, usually with a shower and toilet.

Meals:
During the trip, good and healthy meals will be prepared using predominantly local products. To give you an idea of what the meals will be like: breakfast will consist of cornflakes with milk, toast with jam, and occasionally a full English breakfast with eggs and bacon, fruit juice, coffee, and tea.

Lunch will mostly consist of cheese, cold cuts, salads and bread (rolls) (picnic style). Dinner will be the most elaborate with regular BBQs, stir-fries and the typical South African Potjiekos (all-in-one pot dish, delicious!!!!) prepared over the campfire. If there are special dietary requirements (due to vegetarian preference and/or allergies), please provide these when booking the trip so that they can be taken into account in advance.

Coffee and tea will also be served during dinner. Other drinks are not included and must be purchased separately. 9x breakfast, 6x lunch and 6x dinner included.

Medical conditions:
Anyone in good health can participate in this trip. Vaccinations are compulsory, check with your doctor or public health service.

Luggage
Travel bag (due to space in the safari truck, it is best to bring luggage in a duffel bag or backpack; hard suitcases are not allowed) with a maximum of 20 kg per person. Please bring your own sleeping bag, pillow, and towel. For the safari truck, a small backpack for personal items.

Reservations
The agent reserves the right to amend a programme if the agent deems it necessary due to certain conditions, force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.

The agent asks for a compensation form to be signed upon arrival and before departure of the trip.
