Programme

Day 1: Johannesburg – Kruger Park

Depart from Johannesburg (approx. 06:30) and drive in a northerly direction towards the world-famous Kruger National Park.

There will then be a stop for lunch and arrival at Kruger Park in the afternoon.

On the way to Skukuza Rest Camp, a first game drive through Kruger National Park in search of the animals that live here.

Besides the well-known BIG Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros), the park also offers mammals (147 species), amphibians (34), reptiles (116) and birds (507) of various species.

Day 2: Kruger National Park

As is customary in Africa, the day starts early. After a cup of coffee or tea and a “rusk” (a combination of biscuit and rusk), a full day of game driving awaits in the Kruger National Park.

During the game drive, led by an experienced ranger, you'll search for the BIG FIVE and other animals found here. The ranger will also share information about life in the bush.

There will be a stop at a lovely picnic spot where the packed picnic breakfast can be eaten. There will also be a stop at one of the rest camps en route for a lunch break (not included in the tour price).

During the game drive in search of the animals native to this area, and with a bit of luck, nocturnal animals such as the porcupine, hyena, leopard, bushbabies, and foxes may also be spotted.

After the game drive, back to the lodge for a refreshing dip in the pool, a delicious dinner, and then falling asleep to the sounds of the bush in the background.

Day 3: Kruger National Park - Makalali Private Game Reserve

Up on time and after breakfast, depart Skukuza Safari Lodge. From Skukuza, game drive through the Kruger National Park to the Orpen Gate where we will leave the Kruger Park.

Afterwards, drive to Makalali Private Game Reserve, north of Hoedspruit.

En route, there will be a stop for a lunch break (not included in the tour price). Upon arrival at Makalali River Lodge, check in and enjoy high tea and time for a refreshing dip in the swimming pool or game spotting from the lodge's viewpoint.

In the afternoon, a game drive through the Makalali Game Reserve in open safari vehicles with an experienced ranger to look for the animals in the park, including the rare wild dogs.

After the game drive, return to Makalali River Lodge and enjoy dinner under the starry sky.

Day 4: Makalali Private Game Reserve - Graskop

This morning we went on a bush walk with the ranger through the Makalali Private Game Reserve, looking for the wild animals in the park.

After the bushwalk, we returned to the lodge for an extensive breakfast. Following breakfast, we departed from the Makalali Private Game Reserve and drove via the stunning Panorama Route, including a visit to the Blyde River Canyon, the third-largest canyon in the world.

Afterwards, drive to the Three Rondavels (three mountains that resemble an African hut) and visit Bourke's Luck Potholes, where years of flowing water have carved giant holes in the sandstone.

Then drive to the Lisbon Falls waterfalls, where the river plummets 94 metres down in a large cloud of mist. If time permits, take a walk to the bottom of the falls.

And last on the route, a visit to the God's Window viewpoint, from where you have a fantastic view over the entire Panorama Route area.

A stop will be made for a lunch break en route.

At the end of the day, drive to the town of Graskop and the Hoyohoyo Angels View hotel in a double room with an en-suite bathroom.

Day 5: Graskop – Johannesburg

After a relaxing breakfast, depart from Graskop and drive back to Johannesburg via a scenic route that was constructed for the pioneering gold prospectors.

A stop will be made for a lunch break en route.

Arrival in Johannesburg at the end of the day and drop-off at OR Tambo Airport or the Protea Balalaika Sandton hotel.

This price is based on two travellers.

For solo travellers; For solo travellers; single supplement £395 (2026) per person for a single room for the duration of the trip.

Children between 7-11 years old pay €618 (2026) when sharing a room with at least two adults.

Optional extras:

  • Single room supplement €30 (2026) per person per night.

Number of participants:
We conduct our lodge safaris in small groups to offer the best and most flexible programme possible.

Small groups mean more time for the traveller, shorter waiting times and a cosy, personal atmosphere during the trip.

The average age on this tour is 38-45, but ages range from 18 to 65 years.

The minimum age for children is generally 7 years, but depending on the trip and if accompanied by at least one adult, a younger age may be permitted upon request.

For travellers over 65 years old, a medical “fitness” certificate may be required, which can be obtained from your GP.

Guaranteed departure with 2 booked participants / maximum 8 participants.

Language
Since the participants on the above trip come from different countries, English will be spoken by the guide during the trip.

The journey is guided by two certified guidance for optimal knowledge, information and individual attention.

Visa
If you are staying in South Africa for no longer than 3 months and possess a Dutch passport that is still valid for at least 30 days upon departure from South Africa, no visa is required for South Africa.

However, there must be sufficient consecutive blank pages remaining in the passport for the necessary stamps. If you hold a nationality other than Dutch, please check with the Consulate of the relevant countries.

Transport
Transport during the journey is by air-conditioned saloon car or minibus.

During most game drives, you will travel in an open safari vehicle. It's a comfortable way to travel and excellent for experiencing game drives.

Travel – Cancellation Insurance
Taking out travel insurance is compulsory, and cancellation insurance is strongly recommended.

If the insurance is not taken out through AfrikaOnline, we kindly request you to provide us with the name of the insurer and the policy numbers of both insurances in writing at least 2 weeks before departure.

Participation
From 7 years old, no maximum age. However, at least 1 adult must travel with each child under 18 years. During the trip, there will be walks that require a certain level of stamina.

The walks are graded as easy to moderate and are always optional.

Teamspirit is part of the fun of travelling in a group.

Overnight stays
All overnight stays during this trip are in double rooms, chalets and permanent safari tents with en-suite bathrooms and a 4 or 5-star accreditation.

Meals:
During the journey, good and healthy meals are prepared using mostly local produce.

Breakfast and dinner will mostly be taken at the accommodations or sometimes in picnic form.

Lunch is usually on the go at a local restaurant and at your own expense. During this trip, 4 breakfasts and 4 dinners are included in the tour price.

Medical conditions:
Anyone in good health may participate in this trip.

Luggage
Travel bag (due to space in the car, it is best to bring luggage in a travel bag or backpack) with a maximum of 20 kg pp.

A small backpack for personal items such as travel documents, a water bottle, sun cream, etc. is handy to take on the bus.

A (hard-shell) suitcase cannot be taken.
