Programme
Day 1: Johannesburg – Middelburg
Welcome at Johannesburg airport by a representative of the camper rental company and transfer to the rental depot where you will pick up the camper.
Depart from Johannesburg and drive east towards the town of Middelburg. Here, amidst beautiful nature and on the banks of the Pienaarsdam dam, you will have the opportunity in the afternoon to go on a boat trip along the dam's shore or to enjoy the surroundings.
The grounds also feature a small game reserve.

Day 2: Middelburg - Sabie
Depart from Middelburg and drive in an easterly direction towards the village of Sabie. Today you will be driving through a beautiful area with much natural beauty, the Northern Drakensberg.
On the way, you can visit the Sudwala Caves, as well as the Sudwala Bantu Village, where you can learn more about different Bantu (Black) tribes in South Africa.
You can also visit various waterfalls in the area (hikes) such as Bridal Veil, Horse Shoe, and Mac Mac Falls.
A visit to the village of Graskop is a must, with fun activities such as the Graskop Gorge Lift, ziplining and walking across the suspension bridge.

Day 3: Sabie
A full day to explore the surroundings. Gold was first discovered in Pilgrim's Rest in 1873 and it looks as if time has stood still there.
The village of Pilgrim's Rest, which at that time was inhabited by fortune seekers, is now a large museum. The pioneer village from that era has remained unchanged; the gold miners are no longer there, but the shops, hotels, bars, and the like are still there, in almost their original state.
There are also various beautiful walks to be made in the area.

Day 4: Sabi - Blyde Canyon
Today we're driving the Panorama Route, where you can visit spectacular natural phenomena such as God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon (the second-largest canyon in the world) and much more.

Day 5: Blyde Canyon - Kruger National Park (Satara Rest Camp)
Depart from Blyde Canyon and drive via the Orpen Gate to the famous Kruger Park.
Report to the entrance office, where you can also purchase a Visitors Guide with detailed maps of Kruger Park. The book tells you the best way to look for wildlife, with routes, animal examples, etc.
On the way to the rest camp, a first game drive looking for the famous Big Five and other animals.
Check in at the rest camp upon arrival. You can also sign up for an afternoon or evening safari or a guided walking safari on site.

Day 6: Kruger National Park (Skukuza Rest Camp)
In the early morning, on the way to seek out game during the cooler hours. Feline creatures sometimes lie on the road surface to sleep because the asphalt retains the heat from the previous day for longer.
Continuing south at a leisurely pace and arriving at Skukuza Rest Camp towards the end of the afternoon.

Day 7: Kruger National Park (Bergendal rest camp)
In the early morning, on the way to seek out game during the cooler hours. Feline creatures sometimes lie on the road surface to sleep because the asphalt retains the heat from the previous day for longer.
Continuing southwards at a leisurely pace, arriving at the Berg en Dal rest camp towards the end of the afternoon.

Day 8: Kruger National Park - Ezulwini (eSwatini)
This morning, departure from Berg en Dal Rest Camp and Kruger National Park on time.
En route, there's a final chance to see the complete “BIG 5”, provided there are still one or two missing. You'll leave the park to enter the Kingdom of Eswatini. Drive via the JEPPE'S REEF border post, passing through Piggs Peak towards Mbabane and the Ezulwini Valley.
Along the way, souvenir stalls can be visited. A visit to the Ngwenya glass factory near the Oshoek border with South Africa is certainly worthwhile.
The campsite has a swimming pool with views over the nature park. Enquire at reception about the campsite's activities, such as horse riding, walking routes, etc.

Day 9: Ezulwini
A full day to explore the Mlilwane Nature Reserve and engage in activities such as a game drive, horse riding, mountain biking, (guided) hikes or a cultural activity like visiting a local village (organised activities and excursions at a charge).

Day 10: Ezulwini – Hluhluwe
Today, driving south through a large part of the Kingdom of Eswatini. Small villages and beautiful nature along the way.
Stop off at one of the many market squares to buy some nice souvenirs.
After passing the Golela border post, you will enter the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Watch out for stray cows, donkeys, and goats on the street!

Day 11 Hluhluwe
A full day to explore the surroundings. At the campsite, you can book a game drive to the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, among other things (it is not permitted to do this in your camper due to the unpaved roads in the park).

Day 12: Hluhluwe
A free day to explore the surroundings and go on excursions. Today, a boat trip can be taken on Lake St. Lucia to see the hippos, crocodiles and waterfowl.
A day trip can also be booked to Sodwana Bay, where you can go snorkelling and diving. A game drive can also be booked, or walks can be taken in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Day 13: Hluhluwe – Cape Vidal
Depart from Hluhluwe and drive via the village of St Lucia (make sure to do your shopping in Hluhluwe or St Lucia as Cape Vidal only has a very small shop) and drive to Cape Vidal.
Full day to explore Cape Vidal and the surrounding area.

Day 14: St. Lucia - Ballito
Depart from Cape Vidal and drive in a southerly direction to the Dolphin Coast and the cosy seaside town of Ballito.
On the way, a beautiful landscape with, among other things, vast sugarcane fields.
On the way to Ballito, you'll pass many small beaches. Take your time (you are on holiday, after all) to turn off at Salt Rock for a refreshing dip in the sea.

Day 15: Ballito – Drakensberg Mountains
Depart from Ballito and head inland. Drive via Pietermaritzburg towards the town of Howick. After visiting Howick and the waterfall, drive via the beautiful Midlands Meander route towards the Central Drakensberg.
Along the way, stops can be made at various stalls selling all sorts of nice souvenirs and homemade products. The campsite is located at the foot of the Central Drakensberg. Here you can go hiking, canoeing, swimming, etc.

Day 16: Drakensberg Mountains
A full day for excursions in the surrounding area or to participate in one of the many activities offered on the campsite, such as horse riding, birdwatching, fishing, hiking, a helicopter flight through the Drakensberg mountains, and much more.

Day 17: Drakensberg Mountains - Golden Gate National Park
In the morning, depart from the Drakensberg Mountains and drive via a beautiful route to the Golden Gate National Park.
Arrive during the day and the rest of the day is free to go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. You can also visit the charming village of Clarens with its art galleries, cosy restaurants and lovely shops.

Day 18: Golden Gate National Park – Johannesburg Airport
Today is the last day of your stay in South Africa. After breakfast, depart from Golden Gate National Park and drive to the Maui rental depot.
Return the camper by 4:00 PM.
After that, a transfer to Johannesburg Airport.

Extension of the journey
Als je voorkeur uitgaat naar een langer of korter verblijf in Zuid-Afrika met een andere route of alleen de camper wil huren en zelf wil puzzelen dan kan dat. Een reisvoorstel “op maat” naar je persoonlijke reiswensen is ook mogelijk.

Voor eSwatini is er ook geen visum nodig, wel moet het paspoort nog tenminste 3 maanden geldig zijn bij vertrek uit eSwatini. Ook dienen er nog voldoende lege pagina’s naast elkaar in het paspoort te zijn voor de benodigde stempels (reken op 2 lege bladzijden per te bezoeken land).
Indien u in het bezit bent van een andere Nationaliteit dan de Nederlandse dan even controleren bij het Consulaat van de betreffende landen. AfrikaOnline verzorgd geen visa.
