On this adventurous journey, you'll visit the highlights of South Africa and eSwatini, such as the Panorama Route,
It Kruger National Park, Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Loch St Lucia, the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, of Drakensberg Mountains, the Addo Elephant National Park Park,

Programme
Day 1: Johannesburg – Middelburg
Arrival at Johannesburg Airport where you will be met by a Maui representative after clearing customs.
Transfer to the Maui rental depot near the airport where you will collect your motorhome.
Depart from Johannesburg and drive eastwards to the village of Middelburg.
Here, amidst the beautiful nature and on the banks of the Pienaarsdam dam, you will have the opportunity in the afternoon to take a boat trip along the dam's edge or simply enjoy the surroundings.
The grounds also feature a small game reserve.

Day 2: Middelburg - Sabie
Depart from Middelburg and drive east towards the village of Sabie. Today you will be driving through a beautiful area with a lot of natural beauty, the Northern Drakensberg Mountains.
En route, you can visit the Sudwala Caves and also the Sudwala Bantu Village, where you can learn more about different Bantu (black) tribes in South Africa. You can also visit various waterfalls in the area (walks) such as the Bridal Veil, Horse Shoe and Mac Mac Falls.
A visit to the village of Graskop is a must, with fun activities such as the gorge lift, ziplining, and walking across the suspension bridge.

Day 3: Sabie - Blyde River
Today you will drive along the famous Panorama Route, where you can visit stunning natural phenomena such as God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon (the second-largest canyon in the world), and much more.

Day 4: Blyde River - Kruger National Park (Satara rest camp)
Depart from Blyde Canyon and drive via the Orpen Gate to the famous Kruger Park.
Report to the entrance office, where you can also buy a Visitors Guide with detailed maps of Kruger Park and an information booklet that can give you tips on the best way to search for wildlife, information about scenic routes, and picnic spots.
On the way to the rest camp, a first game drive looking for the famous Big Five and other animals.
Upon arrival at the rest camp, check in at reception. You can also sign up for an afternoon or evening safari or a guided walking safari on-site.

Day 5: Kruger National Park (Skukuza rest camp)
In the early morning, on the way to seek out game during the cooler hours. Feline creatures sometimes lie on the road surface to sleep because the asphalt retains the heat from the previous day for longer.
Continuing south at a leisurely pace and arriving at Skukuza Rest Camp towards the end of the afternoon.

Day 6: Kruger National Park (Bergendal Rest Camp)
In the early morning, on the way to seek out game during the cooler hours.
When the weather gets warmer, animals seek the coolness of shady trees and bushes, making it naturally more difficult to spot them.
Continuing southwards at a leisurely pace, arriving at the Berg en Dal rest camp towards the end of the afternoon.

Day 7: Kruger National Park - Ezulwini (eSwatini)
This morning, departure from Berg en Dal Rest Camp and Kruger National Park on time.
On the way, one last chance to see the complete “BIG 5”, if one or two are still missing. You will leave the park to enter the Kingdom of eSwatini.
Drive via the Jeppe's Reef border post, via Piggs Peak to Mbabane and on to the Ezulwini Valley.
En route, souvenir stalls can be visited. A visit to the Ngwenya glass factory near the Oshoek border with South Africa is certainly worthwhile.
The campsite has a swimming pool with views over the nature park. Enquire at reception about the campsite's activities such as horse riding, hiking trails, mountain biking, etc.

Day 8: Ezulwini
A full day to explore the Mlilwane Nature Reserve and engage in activities such as a game drive, horse riding, mountain biking, (guided) hikes or a cultural activity like visiting a local village (organised activities and excursions at a charge).

Day 9: Ezulwini – Hluhluwe
Today, driving, in a southerly direction, through a large part of the kingdom of Eswatini.
En route through small villages and beautiful nature. Make a stop at one of the many market squares to buy nice souvenirs.
After passing the Golela border post, you will enter the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Watch out for stray cows, donkeys, and goats on the street!

Day 10: Hluhluwe
A full day to explore the surroundings. At the Hluhluwe Bush Camp, you can also book very fun activities such as a game drive, a boat trip, etc.
You can also take a trip in the surrounding area. Please note, you cannot drive everywhere with a campervan, so sometimes an organised trip is better.

Day 11: Hluhluwe - Ballito
Depart from Hluhluwe Bush Camp and drive south to the Dolphin Coast and the cosy seaside town of Ballito.
On the way, a beautiful landscape with extensive sugar cane fields, among other things. On the way to Ballito, you'll pass many small beaches. Take your time (you are on holiday, after all) to turn off at Salt Rock for a refreshing dip in the sea.

Day 12: Ballito – Drakensberg Mountains
Depart from Ballito and head inland to the west. Drive via Pietermaritzburg towards the town of Howick.
After visiting Howick and the waterfall via the beautiful Midlands Meander route, drive to the Central Drakensberg.
Stops can be made along the way at various stalls selling nice souvenirs and homemade products.
The campsite is located at the foot of the Central Drakensberg. Here you can go hiking, canoeing, swimming, etc.

Day 13: Drakensberg
A full day for excursions in the surrounding area or to take part in one of the many activities on offer at the campsite, such as horse riding, bird watching, fishing, hiking, a helicopter flight through the Drakensberg mountains, and much more.

Day 14: Drakensberg Mountains - Golden Gate National Park
In the morning, depart from the Drakensberg Mountains and drive via a beautiful route to the Golden Gate National Park.
Arrive during the day and the rest of the day is free to go for walks and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
You can also visit the charming village of Clarens with its art galleries, cosy restaurants and nice shops.

Day 15: Golden Gate National Park - Ladybrand
Depart from Golden Gate National Park and drive via a scenic route to Ladybrand.
Ladybrand is known for its cherry orchards and sandstone buildings.
From Ladybrand, you can also easily pop across the border to Lesotho and visit the capital, Maseru.

Day 18: Nieu Bethesda – Addo

Day 19: Addo - Tsitsikamma National Park
Depart from Addo Elephant Park and via the Addo South Gate, depart from Addo National Park. Via Port Elizabeth to Tsitsikamma National Park.
Arrival at Tsitsikamma National Park and the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.
Tonight's campsite is located on the rugged coastline of Tsitsikamma National Park, near the mouth of the Storms River.

Day 20: Tsitsikamma National Park – Garden Route National Park
Depart from Tsitsikamma and drive along the famous Garden Route to the village of Wilderness.
Rest of the day at leisure. A stop can be made in Plettenberg Bay and Knysna en route.
Knysna is a charming seaside town on a beautiful lagoon. The view from the Heads over the Indian Ocean is definitely worth a stop. There's also a pleasant little harbour, The Waterfront Quays.

Day 21: Garden Route National Park - Swellendam
Continue along the Garden Route and drive via George and Mossel Bay to the historic village of Swellendam.
The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. Swellendam is characterised by oak-lined streets and well-preserved historical buildings.
The Drostdy Museum and Bontebok National Park, where the rare and beautiful Bontebok can be found, are well worth visiting.
There are also opportunities to ramble to your heart's content in the Marloth Nature Reserve.

Day 22: Swellendam - Paarl
This morning's departure from Swellendam and drive via Hermanus to Paarl.
From May to October, there's a good chance of seeing whales in the bay of Hermanus, as they come here to give birth.
After visiting Hermanus, continue driving along a beautiful coastal road past small towns like Kleinmond, Betty's Bay, and Rooiels in the direction of Gordon's Bay.
Gordon's Bay is a small coastal town where you can stop for lunch or a few hours on the beach.
From Gordon's Bay, drive via Somerset West and Stellenbosch to the Hollandsche Molen resort, situated between Paarl and Franschhoek.

Day 23: Paarl
A free day to explore the surroundings.
A visit can be made to the historic village of Franschhoek, known for its many wineries, the Huguenot Monument, and the charming Dorpstraat with its cosy shops and restaurants.
A visit can also be made to the university town of Stellenbosch and, of course, to the various wineries.

Day 24: Paarl – Kommetjie
Depart from Paarl and take a scenic route via the Cape Peninsula. You can visit the fishing villages of Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, Simonstown, and see the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
From Simon's Town drive to Cape of Good Hope National Park.

Day 25: Kommetjie
Today, a visit can be made to the centre of Cape Town with the Bo-Kaap, the historic centre and the Dutch fort, the famous Table Mountain, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and Robben Island, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and much more.

Day 26: Kommetjie – Cape Town Airport
Today is your last day in South Africa. In the afternoon (before 4:00 PM), you will return the campervan to the Maui rental office near the airport.
After that, a short transfer to Cape Town Airport.

To hire a motorhome, you must hold a valid driving licence and a valid International Driving Permit (available from the ANWB). Additional costs, such as waiving the excess and any extras you wish to hire, must be paid by credit card.

The driver must be at least 25 years of age and hold a valid B driving licence.

Visa
If you are in possession of a Dutch passport which is valid for at least 30 days after departure from South Africa, no visa is required for South Africa.
No visa is required for eSwatini either, but your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after departure from eSwatini. There must also be sufficient blank pages next to each other in the passport for the necessary stamps (allow for 2 blank pages per country visited).
If you hold a nationality other than Dutch, please check with the consulate of the relevant country. AfrikaOnline does not provide visas.

Luggage
Due to space constraints in the motorhome, we recommend that you use soft-sided bags or rucksacks. If you are travelling with hard-sided suitcases, you can leave them in storage at the Maui hire depot once you have unpacked your luggage.
