This price is based on two travellers. For single travellers; Accommodation during the trip can be shared (at no extra cost) or at a surcharge of €800 (2026) per person for a single room.

*A “local payment” is requested for this safari trip.

This local payment will be collected in cash by the tour guide at the start of each trip and will usually be in the local currency or US dollar.

Using the local payment, various national park entrance fees and other excursion fees will be paid, among other things.

During this trip, the following goals are supported;

The Gwabi River Lodge is run by the owner, and 100% of the staff are Zambian.

The lodge produces and sells eco charcoal at a cheap price in the Lower Zambezi Valley, which deters illegal logging by local people.

They also help a local school by donating vegetable seeds, installing water pumps and advising the local community on growing vegetables and fruit.

Vegetables and fruit are once again being purchased from the local population for use in the lodge.

The Wildlife camp is run by the owner themselves and employs 50 staff members, all from Zambia. All fruit and vegetables used in the lodge are purchased from small local farmers and from the lodge's own vegetable garden.

The Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia partly owns the lodge and has an educational facility to give local youth an insight into conservation and wildlife, for example, to combat poaching.

African Parks Malawi has reintroduced various animal species, such as large carnivores (wild dogs, cheetah, and lion), and contributed to the anti-poaching policy in the park since taking over the management of Liwonde National Park.

They have also helped resolve the conflict between the elephants in the park and the local population by, among other things, providing compensation and involving the local population in protecting the park and the animals by, among other things, offering training as rangers. www.africanparks.org/the-parks/liwonde.

Blue Zebra Island Lodge is the only lodge on the uninhabited island of Nakoma, situated in Lake Malawi, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

It is an eco-friendly, safari-style lodge that makes use of solar energy. They work in partnership with the Department of National Parks to protect both marine and terrestrial wildlife.

The lodge's staff largely comes from the nearby villages.

Our comfort group safaris are run in small groups to offer the best possible and most flexible itinerary.

Small groups mean more time for the traveller, shorter waiting times and a cosy, personal atmosphere during the trip.

The average age on this tour is 38-45, but ages range from 20 to 60+ years.

Minimum age for children is 12 years provided they are accompanied by at least 1 adult. There is no age limit, but for travellers aged 65 and over, a medical “fitness to travel” certificate is required, which can be obtained from your GP. Guaranteed departure from 4 people/maximum 12 participants.

Language
As the participants on the above trip come from different countries, English will be spoken by the guide during the trip (with the exception of departure dates marked with a *, during which German will be spoken primarily).

The journey is guided by 2 certified guides for optimal knowledge, information and individual attention.

Visa
If you are in possession of a Dutch passport that is valid for at least 6 months after returning from the trip, a visa is required for both Zambia and Malawi.

This visa is best arranged before leaving the Netherlands or at the border (this may take longer). There must also be enough blank adjacent pages in your passport for the necessary stamps.

If you hold a nationality other than Dutch, please check with the Consulate of the relevant countries. Afrika Online does not provide visas.

Highlights of the trip:

Naturally, during the trip, an effort will be made to visit villages and make contact with the local inhabitants.

Transport
Transport during the journey is via a special overland safari truck with 10/12 seats.

For game drives in South Luangwa National Park, open 4x4 safari vehicles with local guides are used.

Travel – Cancellation Insurance
Taking out travel insurance is compulsory.

It is recommended to take out cancellation insurance. If the insurances are not taken out through AfrikaOnline, we kindly request you to provide AfrikaOnline with the name of the insurer and the policy numbers of both insurances by email as soon as possible and well before your departure.

Participation
From 12 years old, no maximum age. However, at least 1 adult must accompany every child under 18.

During the trip, walks will be made that require a certain level of stamina.

The walks are graded as easy to moderate and are always optional.

For all trips, participation was requested in loading the truck, helping to prepare meals, and of course helping with the washing up.

Team spirit is part of the fun of travelling in a group.

Overnight stays
During this trip, we will be staying for 12 nights in simple guesthouses and lodges with en-suite bathrooms.

There will also be a number of nights camping in a beautiful natural spot in a two-person tent with shared shower and toilet facilities.

A “wild campsite” is also used for a one-night stay.

During your stay at this campsite, you will be using your own portable toilet and bush shower, so the facilities are basic.

The camping equipment; spacious and comfortable igloo tent of 2.2 x 2.2 x 1.5 metres that are easy to set up/dismantle.

The tents have “built-in” mosquito nets. Furthermore, there are mattresses approximately 5 cm thick and comfortable camping chairs with backrests.

Meals:
During the trip, good and healthy meals are prepared using mostly local produce.

To give you an idea of what the meals will be like: breakfast will consist of cornflakes with milk, toast with jam, and a regular English breakfast with eggs and bacon, fruit juice, coffee, and tea.

The lunch will largely consist of cheese, cold cuts, salads and bread rolls (picnic style).

The dinner will be most extensive with regular BBQ, stir-fry dishes, and the typical South African Potjiekos (an all-in-one pot dish, delicious!!!!) prepared over the campfire. If there are any special dietary requirements (due to vegetarian preference and/or allergies), please inform us when booking the trip so that they can be taken into account in advance.

Coffee and tea will also be served during dinner. Other drinks are exclusive and must be purchased separately. During this trip, 15 breakfasts, 14 lunches, and 8 dinners are included in the total cost.

During the trip, cooperation is requested with setting and clearing tables and washing up.

Medical conditions:
Anyone in good health may participate in this trip.

Luggage
Travel bag (due to limited space in the car, we recommend bringing luggage in a travel bag or backpack) with a maximum of 20 kg per person.

In addition, a small separate backpack or a handy bag for personal items.

Bring your own (warm) sleeping bag, a towel, and a small pillow. A hard suitcase cannot be brought due to space in the truck.

Reservations
The agent reserves the right to amend a programme if the agent deems it necessary due to certain conditions, force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.

Should the vehicle break down, the agent will not be responsible for alternative accommodation other than camping, and there will be no compensation for flights or similar.

The agent asks for a compensation form to be signed upon arrival and before departure of the trip.

Failure to sign this form may result in the passenger being refused travel.
