Programme
Day 1: Lusaka
Around 4:00 PM, the group will meet at Pioneers Camp just outside Lusaka for introductions to fellow travellers and guides, followed by a tour briefing.
Rest of the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 2: Lusaka – Chirundu (Lower Zambezi)
Depart from Lusaka after breakfast and drive via the Miombo hills of southern Zambia to the Zambezi Valley and the Kafue River.
The Kafue River is a tributary of the Zambezi River, the longest and largest river in Zambia. Tonight's lodge is situated on the banks of the Kafue River.

Day 3-4: Lower Zambezi canoe excursion
Two full days canoeing on the Zambezi River with traditional villages en route and overwhelming nature and wildlife.
The first night will be spent camping on the riverbank (so-called wild camping where everything is self-sufficient), the second night will be back at Gwabi Lodge.
At the end of day 4, the canoes are towed back upstream to the lodge by a motorboat.

Day 5: Lower Zambezi – Lusaka – Petauke
Today, we'll depart on time from the Lower Zambezi valley and drive to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
In Lusaka, shopping for the coming days is done, and there is time to visit one of the many local markets.
Then drive via the Great East Road towards South Luangwa National Park.
Along the way, small villages and stalls with all sorts of local products.

Day 6 - 7 - 8: Petauke – South Luangwa National Park
Depart after breakfast and descend into the valley of South Luangwa National Park.
This area is remote, “off the beaten track” and one of Africa's most beautiful and untouched parks where elephants, hippos, lions and leopards are abundant.
The lodge for the coming days is located on the banks of the Luangwa River and overlooks the park.
Hippos and elephants can regularly be seen from the swimming pool; you can hardly get any closer to nature.
The lodge is situated in a private concession where game walks and night drives with open 4x4 game drive vehicles are permitted.

Day 9: South Luangwa National Park – Lilongwe
After breakfast, depart from South Luangwa and drive to Chipata where the border will be crossed into Malawi.
From the border, drive to the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe. In Lilongwe, shopping will be done for the coming day and there will be time to look around and visit a local market.

Day 10: Lilongwe – Mulanje Massif
Depart from Lilongwe and drive south via the town of Blantyre to Mount Mulanje.
On the way to the lodge, a visit will be made to one of the many tea plantations in the Thyolo district.
After the tour of the tea plantation, drive to Mount Mulanje. Mount Mulanje is a 3002-meter-high mountain in southern Malawi which has a significant influence on the local climate and ensures sufficient rainfall.
Arrival and the rest of the afternoon is free.

Day 11: Mulanje Massif
Today a walk from the lodge through the Mulanje Massif with its tropical vegetation, where streams, waterfalls and high mountain peaks alternate.

Day 12 - 13: Mulanje Massif – Liwonde National Park
Depart from Mulanje and drive north via Zomba to Liwonde National Park.
Liwonde National Park is a park of approximately 548km² that stretches along the Shire River.
The park is the only park in Malawi where elephants and the endangered black rhino are found.
The park is also home to leopards, hippos, antelopes, and the rare Lilian’s lovebirds. Arrive in the afternoon for either a game drive or a boat cruise on the Shire River.
The following day, game drives are taken in the park with the safari truck.
Overnight stays at Africa Parks Chinguni campsite in Liwonde National Park. (camping)

Day 14: Liwonde National Park - Lake Malawi National Park
Depart from Chinguni camp after breakfast and drive towards Lake Malawi National Park where we'll take a boat to the remote Nankoma Island in Lake Malawi near Senga Bay.
Arrival and the rest of the day is free for swimming, snorkelling and relaxing.

Dag 15: Lake Malawi Nationaal Park
Volle dag om te relaxen op Nankoma Island.
Het verblijf is typisch Island stijl, dus ’s morgen na het wakker worden op blote voeten naar het strand voor een wandeling in de ochtendzon. Je kunt er snorkelen, kajakken, zwemmen.
Lake Malawi is tropsich warm en heeft een prachtige onderwaterwereld met tropische vissen.

De Gwabi River Lodge wordt gerund door de eigenaar en 100% van de staf is Zambiaans.
The lodge produces and sells eco charcoal at a cheap price in the Lower Zambezi Valley, which deters illegal logging by local people.
They also help a local school by donating vegetable seeds, installing water pumps and advising the local community on growing vegetables and fruit.
Groenten en fruit wordt weer aangekocht van de lokale bevolking voor gebruik in de lodge.
The Wildlife camp wordt gerund door de eigenaar zelf en biedt werk aan 50 man staf, alle uit Zambia. Alle fruit en groenten wordt die worden gebruikt in de lodge worden gekocht van kleine boeren in de omgeving en de groetentuin van de lodge zelf.
Wildlife en Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia is deels eigenaar van de lodge en hebben een educatieruimte om de lokale jeugd een kijkje te geven in het behouden van de natuur en het wild o.a. zo het stropen tegen te gaan.
Het African Parks Malawi heft sinds ze het managen van het Liwonde Nationaal Park hebben overgenomen diverse diersoorten zoals grote carnivoren (wilde honden, cheetah en leeuw) geherintroduceerd en bijgedragen aan het anti stropers beleid in het park.
Ook hebben ze het conflict tussen de olifanten in het park en de lokale bevolking helpen oplossen door o.a. compensatie te geven en de lokale bevolking te betrekken in het beschermen van het park en de dieren door o.a. opleiding tot rangers aan te bieden www.africanparks.org/the-parks/liwonde.
Blue Zebra Island Lodge is de enige lodge op het onbewoonde eiland Nakoma gelegen in Lake Malawi, een UNESCO Worl Heritage site.
Het is een eco vriendelijke lodge, safari stijl met 100% gebruik van zonne-energie. Ze werken samen met het department of National parks om zowel het leven onderwater als bovenwater te beschermen.
De staf van de lodge komt grotendeels uit de nabijgelegen dorpen.

Participation
From 12 years old, no maximum age. However, at least 1 adult must accompany every child under 18.
During the trip, walks will be made that require a certain level of stamina.
The walks are graded as easy to moderate and are always optional.

Overnight stays
Tijdens deze reis overnachten we 12x in eenvoudige guesthouses en lodges met een eigen badkamer.
Ook wordt er een aantal nachten gekampeerd op een mooie plek in de natuur in een tweepersoonstent en gedeelde douche/toilet faciliteiten.
Ook wordt er voor 1 nacht gebruik wordt gemaakt van zogenaamde “wild campsite”.
Tijdens het verblijf op deze camping word gebruik gemaakt van zelf meegenomen een bushtoilet en een bush douche, eenvoudige faciliteiten dus.
De kampeeruitrusting; ruime en comfortabele iglotent van 2.2 x 2.2 x 1.5 meter die eenvoudig zijn op te zetten/af te breken.
The tents have “built-in” mosquito nets. Furthermore, there are mattresses approximately 5 cm thick and comfortable camping chairs with backrests.
Meals:
During the trip, good and healthy meals are prepared using mostly local produce.
To give you an idea of what the meals will be like: breakfast will consist of cornflakes with milk, toast with jam, and a regular English breakfast with eggs and bacon, fruit juice, coffee, and tea.
The lunch will largely consist of cheese, cold cuts, salads and bread rolls (picnic style).
Het diner zal het meest uitgebreid zijn met regelmatig bbq, roerbakschotels en de typisch Zuid Afrikaanse Potjiekos (alles in één kookpot gerecht, heerlijk !!!!) klaargemaakt boven het kampvuur. Indien er speciale diëten zijn (vanwege vegetarische voorkeur en/of allergieën) deze graag doorgeven bij boeking van de reis zodat er van te voren rekening mee gehouden kan worden.
Tijdens het diner wordt ook koffie en thee geschonken. Overige dranken zijn exclusief en moeten zelf worden ingekocht. Tijdens deze reis zijn 15x ontbijt, 14x lunch en 8x diner inbegrepen in de reissom.

Reservations
