Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi

Today is one of the highlights of this trip, a visit to the mountain gorillas. Waking up early and getting ready for the encounter with the endangered mountain gorilla.

The visiting of mountain gorillas by tourists helps the Ugandan government to protect these magnificent animals. There is strict control over the number of permits issued daily and visitor numbers are limited.

Because the gorillas have borders and they can easily cross the border into Rwanda and the DRC, the tour operator may choose to do the gorilla trekking in one of these countries, just across the border from Uganda (you will, of course, be informed of this before departure).

Tourism also supports the local population by providing employment and training, making them realise the importance of gorillas and, instead of hunting them, they now take it upon themselves to protect the gorillas.
