English is spoken by the guide during the trip. On request, we can arrange for guides who speak other languages.

The journey is always accompanied by a certified guide/driver for optimal knowledge, information, and individual attention.

Visa
For travel to Kenya, you must possess a valid Dutch passport which is valid for at least 6 months upon departure from Kenya, and a visa.

The E-visa for Kenya can be applied for online via this link; etakenya.go.ke.

A visa valid for 90 days costs US$ 30–35 per person (subject to change). Apply for the eTA at least 7 days before departure via the official government website.

For more information, please contact the Kenyan Embassy in The Hague or visit the website of Nederland Wereldwijd. www.netherlandsandyou.nl/travel-and-advice/kenya

Time difference
The time difference is 1 hour in the summer months, and 2 hours in the winter months.

Banks and finance
With the exception of Nairobi (from 09:00 to 15:00) and Jomo Kenyatta Airport (24 hours a day), banks in Kenya are generally only open on weekday mornings.

All major hotels and most lodges are licensed to exchange foreign currency and travellers' cheques. In Nairobi there are several cash machines (but please note that these do not always work).

Credit cards (VISA, Mastercard and Barclay) are accepted almost everywhere. American Express is not accepted. Cash only in clean and undamaged US dollars in small denominations.

The local currency is the Kenyan shilling.

Health and Safety
The sun in Kenya is warmer and more intense than you can imagine. Even on a cloudy day, you can still get badly burned.

A good sun cream (at least SPF 30) is therefore essential, as are a good sun hat and sunglasses.

Drink plenty, but never from the tap; it's better to buy bottled water.

In most hotels and lodges, drinking water will be provided in the room.

Hospitals and healthcare
If you have visited a country where yellow fever is prevalent prior to your visit to Kenya, vaccination against it is mandatory.

There are small rural hospitals dotted across Kenya. Larger hospitals are only found in Nairobi and Mombasa.

It is therefore also important to inquire about recommended vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis well in advance of departure.

It is also wise to put together a small travel first-aid kit with, among other things, Imodium for diarrhoea, ORS, etc.

The Flying Doctors Society of Africa offers temporary membership to tourists for a small fee.

In return, “members” receive free air transport to a hospital or medical centre in case of serious accident or severe illness during the safari.

Malaria
The best way to prevent malaria is to ensure you are not bitten.

When it's dusk (morning and evening), wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirts and use the product DEET on your ankles, hands and neck.

In addition, it is highly recommended to take good malaria prophylaxis. Please consult your GGD for more information.

Photography
In Kenya, it is prohibited to take photographs of the President, police, military personnel, prisons, and airports. If you wish to take photographs of the local population, it is advisable to ask for permission beforehand.

For you, it may be a cherished holiday memory, but many Kenyan residents are superstitious and do not want you to take their photo.

Keep your camera in a dust-free bag or container.

Transport
Transport during the trip is by 4x4 safari minibus. Comfortable travel and excellent for game drives.

If two people are booked for the relevant travel date, a different, smaller type of car may be used.

Travel – Cancellation Insurance
Taking out travel insurance is mandatory. It is recommended to take out cancellation insurance.

AfrikaOnline does not provide insurance.

We kindly request that you provide the name of the insurer and the policy numbers for both insurances to AfrikaOnline via email as soon as possible and well in advance of your departure.

Participation
This trip is also suitable for children and although the distances between the different parks are sometimes on the long side, there is enough time to stop along the way and there are interesting things to see en route.

To make the most of this trip, we recommend not travelling with children under 8 years old (with exceptions).

However, there must be at least 1 adult accompanying each child under 18 years old.

Medical conditions:
Anyone in good health may participate in this trip.

Luggage
Travel bag (due to space in the car, it is best to pack luggage in a travel bag or backpack) with a maximum of 20 kg per person.

The agent reserves the right to amend a programme if the agent deems it necessary due to certain conditions, force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.

The agent asks for a compensation form to be signed upon arrival and before departure of the trip.
