Familiarisation trip through the southern part of Mozambique including a visit to the capital Maputo,

Programme
Day 1: Maputo – Xai Xai
Depart from the Southern Sun Maputo hotel at 13:00 (arrive at the Southern Sun hotel at least 30 minutes prior to departure) and drive past villages and banana plantations to the coast and the Indian Ocean.
Arrived in Xai Xai in the afternoon, just in time for a lovely walk along the beach to stretch our legs after the long journey.
Overnight stay in Go Wild Resort in a double room. (lodge)

Day 2: Xai Xai – Vilanculos
After breakfast, we leave Xai Xai and drive north towards the town of Vilanculos, which is famous for its idyllic white sandy beaches and azure blue sea.
Although it's a long day of driving, it certainly won't be a dull one. On the way to Vilanculos, the journey passes numerous villages, coconut, cashew nut and sugar cane plantations, giving you a good impression of the colourful landscape along the way.
Of course, there’ll be a stop along the way at a local village or market where you can stretch your legs and have a look around the colourful stalls.
Arrive at the palm-fringed sandy beach of Vilanculos and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your leisure.

Day 3: Vilanculos
This morning after breakfast we will board a traditional Dhow for a visit to Magaruque Island.
A whole day to visit the island, go snorkelling and enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Indian Ocean.
Back to Vilanculos and Sailaway Camp at the end of the day.

Day 4: Vilanculos – Barra Beach (Inhambane)
Depart from Vilanculos after breakfast and drive along the coast to the town of Inhambane and Praia de Barra.
Arrival at the palm-fringed sandy beach of Praia de Barra and the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure for relaxing, swimming and snorkelling.

Day 5: Barra Beach
A full day to spend as you wish in and around Praia de Barra. You can relax by the sea, go for a walk on the beach or book excursions such as scuba diving, snorkelling, quad biking, ocean safaris and much more.

Day 6: Barra Beach
This morning after breakfast, we'll drive to the village of Tofo and visit Tofo Beach, a beach known for the whale sharks and manta rays that swim off its coast. The village of Tofo has a cosy atmosphere with nice little bars and small restaurants.

Day 7: Barra Beach - Maputo
After breakfast, depart from Inhambane and drive to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.
After the lunch stop, a guided walk through Maputo city. In the evening, with the guide, head into town for dinner at a restaurant and a glimpse into the nightlife of this vibrant city.

Optional extras:

- Single room supplement €85 (2026) and €86 (2027) per person per night.
- Maputo Airport to Southern Sun Maputo optional transfer €32 (2026) and €36 (2027) per person per single journey for shuttle bus between 06:00 and 21:00. Outside these times (between 21:00 and 06:00), a private transfer costs €55 (2026) and €57 (2027) per person with a minimum of 2 people.

Extension of the journey
If you prefer a longer or shorter stay, that is of course possible. You can extend your trip with a few days in Maputo or a beach stay on Inhaca Island.

Visa
If you are travelling to Mozambique and staying for less than 30 days, a visa is not required.
However, you must register at least 2 days before arrival on the following website www.evisa.gov.mz. You will then receive proof of registration.
Keep this proof safe. After registration, you may stay in Mozambique for 30 days. You may enter the country multiple times within these 30 days.
When leaving the country, you must present the registration form again. Furthermore, the Dutch passport must still be valid for at least 6 months upon return from the trip, and there must be at least 2 blank pages in the passport.
If you have a nationality other than Dutch, please check with the consulate of your country. AfrikaOnline does not provide visas.

Transport
Transport during the trip is a special 12-seater safari truck.
Comfortable travel and excellent for game drives. Large windows so everyone has a good view.
Roof rack and trailer for luggage.
Travel – Cancellation Insurance
Taking out travel insurance is mandatory. It is recommended to take out cancellation insurance.
AfrikaOnline does not provide insurance.
We kindly request that you provide the name of the insurer and the policy numbers for both insurances to AfrikaOnline via email as soon as possible and well in advance of your departure.
Participation
From 10 years old, no maximum age. However, for every child under 18, at least 1 adult must travel with them.
Travellers over the age of 65 may be asked to complete a health declaration form with their GP.
During the trip, walks will be made that require a certain level of stamina.
The walks are graded as easy to moderate and are always optional.
Overnight stays
In simple hotels, guesthouses, bed & breakfasts, bungalows, chalets, and permanent tented camps.
On request, a double bed or two single beds and usually with a private bathroom with shower and toilet.
Meals:
During the trip, good and healthy meals will be prepared by the guide at the safari truck. These meals will mostly consist of local produce.
To give you an idea of what the meals will be like: breakfast will consist of cornflakes with milk, toast with jam, and a regular English breakfast with eggs and bacon, fruit juice, coffee, and tea.
Lunch will mostly consist of cheese, cold cuts, salads and bread (picnic style). Dinner will be the most elaborate with regular BBQs, stir-fries and the typically South African Potjiekos (an all-in-one pot dish, delicious!!!!) prepared over the campfire.
If there are special dietary requirements (due to vegetarian preference and/or allergies), please state them when booking the trip so that they can be taken into account in advance.
Coffee and tea are also served during dinner. Other drinks are not included and must be purchased separately. This trip includes 4 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 4 dinners.
Medical conditions:
Anyone in good health can participate in this trip.
Luggage
Travel bag (due to space in the car, it is best to pack luggage in a travel bag or backpack) with a maximum of 20 kg per person.
For daytime trips in the car, it’s handy to have a small rucksack for your personal bits and bobs, such as sun cream, bottles of water, sunglasses, etc.
Reservations
The agent reserves the right to amend a programme if the agent deems it necessary due to certain conditions, force majeure or unforeseen circumstances.
The agent asks for a compensation form to be signed upon arrival and before departure of the trip.
