(subject to change)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time difference<\/strong><br \/>\nThe time difference is 1 hour in the summer months, and 2 hours in the winter months.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Banks and finance<\/strong><br \/>\nWith the exception of Dar es Salaam (from 09:00 to 15:00) and Kilimanjaro Airport (24 hours a day), banks in Tanzania<br \/>\nGenerally open only in the mornings on weekdays.<\/p>\n<p>All major hotels and most lodges are licensed to exchange foreign currency and travellers cheques. In Arusha there are 2 cash machines (but be aware that these do not always work).<\/p>\n<p>Travellers cheques in US dollars and credit cards (VISA, Mastercard and Barclay) are widely accepted. American Express is not accepted.<\/p>\n<p>Cash only in US dollars and small denominations. The local currency is the Tanzanian shilling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Safety<\/strong><br \/>\nThe sun in Tanzania is hotter and more intense than you can imagine. Even on a cloudy day, you can still get badly sunburnt. Good sunscreen (at least factor 30) is therefore essential, as are a good sun hat and sunglasses.<\/p>\n<p>Drink plenty, but never from the tap; it's better to buy bottled water.<\/p>\n<p>In most hotels and lodges, drinking water will be provided in the room.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hospitals and healthcare<\/strong><br \/>\nThere are small district hospitals located throughout Tanzania. Larger hospitals are only found in Arusha and Dar es Salaam.<\/p>\n<p>It is therefore also important to inquire about recommended vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis well in advance of departure.<\/p>\n<p>It is also advisable to put together a small travel first-aid kit with, for example, Imodium for diarrhoea, ORS, etc. (also check www.gezondheidsnet.nl\/reisapotheek).<\/p>\n<p>The Flying Doctors Society of Africa offers temporary membership for tourists for a small fee. In return, \u201cmembers\u201d receive free air transport to a hospital or medical centre in the event of a serious accident or severe illness while on safari.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malaria<\/strong><br \/>\nThe best way to prevent malaria is to ensure you are not bitten.<\/p>\n<p>When it's dusk (morning and evening), wear long trousers and long-sleeved shirts, and apply mosquito repellent containing DEET to your ankles, hands, and neck.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, it is highly recommended to take good malaria prophylaxis. Please consult your GGD for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Photography<\/strong><br \/>\nIn Tanzania, it is forbidden to take photographs of the President, the police, military personnel, prisons, and airports. If you wish to take a photo of the local population, it is advisable to ask for permission beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>For you, it may be a treasured memory of your holiday, but many Tanzanian residents are superstitious and do not want you to take their photograph. Keep your camera in a dust-free bag or container.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transport<\/strong><br \/>\nTransport during the trip is by 4\u00d74 Land Cruiser safari vehicle. Comfortable travel and excellent for game drives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel \u2013 Cancellation Insurance<\/strong><br \/>\nTaking out travel insurance is mandatory.
